ASTRO LIGHTING HALO COLLECTION
Astro lighting, Essex are a leading brand in commericial/domestic lighting. They produce lighting products for Mid-High contemporary settings.
We were approached by Astro to create a suite of lights for a hotel room. The type of Hotel room was to be desired by ourselves as well as the type of light fitting. To satisfy the brief, a suite of 3 lights had to be produce with one physical model needing to communicate the concept as well as by means through CAD and prototype models.
The sketching process of this project was very fast paced in terms of formulating different types of lights based on Astro's design language as well as the feedback from a interim meeting with company CEO James Bassant head designer Ridley . It was also chance to try different types of fittings as well as to highlight the three main lights suitable for my hotel room. These three lights being, reading light, floor standing and wall mounted.
The Halo reading light. Wall mounted internally and blends into the room when not in use but emits a clear halo of light when pulled out.
The Halo floor light. Designed to be manouvreable by the user and can sit in the corner of a room over a chair or office desk, displaying with a simple halo motive perpetuated by the foot operated switch.
The Halo wall light. Wall mounted using a system where the light seems to look like it is floating in mid air. This light gives off a strong vibrant pool of light which floods onto the wall in which it is placed
Manufacturing details for this project had to be comprehensive as to fulfill the brief set. This called for the reading light and wall light to be challenging in terms of the fitting and installation to be flawless and quick. The reading light possessing a patress design similar to that of prexisting socket or internally mounted wall fitting. The wall light using a plate to secure the light fitting to the wall and then plastered over to create the floating effect.
As with the manufacturing details, An exploded view to display clearly the seperate components in their entirety. This is the Halo Reading light
Another exploded view, this time the Halo Floor light
An exploded view of the wall light showing clearly the components and their fitment into the design
